Privacy Policy

This policy describes information associated with use of Ingham County Residents Directory and the limits of this private reference service. Official records remain subject to the rules and privacy notices of their custodians.

Information You Submit

If you contact us, you may choose to provide a name, email address, and the content of your message. Please do not send Social Security numbers, full dates of birth, driver-license information, account numbers, or restricted record material. Messages are used to respond to the request or maintain service communications.

Technical Information

Like most websites, this service and its providers may receive basic technical data such as browser type, device information, referring page, IP address, pages requested, and time of access. This information helps operate, secure, and measure the service. It is not an official Ingham County record.

How Information Is Used

Information is used to operate the site, respond to messages, protect against misuse, understand general service performance, and meet legal obligations. We do not use a visitor's submission to create or amend a government record, and we cannot change records held by Ingham County, Michigan, a court, CADL, or another custodian.

Outside Websites

Links and search tools may lead to government agencies, libraries, archives, or third-party services. Those organizations collect information under their own policies. Review the destination's privacy notice before submitting a search, request form, payment, or identifying document.

When Information May Be Shared

Information may be disclosed to service providers that help operate the site, when required by law, to enforce terms, or to protect safety and security. We do not sell contact messages as official record data. A lawful request directed to a government custodian is governed by that custodian's law and procedure, including Michigan FOIA, 1976 PA 442, MCL 15.231 et seq.

Security Practices

Reasonable safeguards are used for site operations, but no online transmission or storage system is fully secure. Keep sensitive information out of contact messages and send a records request only through a verified custodian channel. Michigan Address Confidentiality Program participants should work with the program and each custodian before disclosing a location.

Children

This service is not intended for children under 18. Do not submit information about a child or an adult without a lawful reason to share it. Birth, juvenile, adoption, and protected court records can have special restrictions under Michigan law and court rules.

Your Choices

You may ask about personal information you submitted through a contact message, subject to legal and operational limits. To correct an official public record, contact the original custodian, such as a local assessor, voter clerk, court clerk, or Michigan MDHHS. Michigan has record-specific protections, including MCL 333.2882 for birth records and voter-file field exemptions, rather than a universal private-record opt-out.

Policy Revisions

We may revise this policy by posting an updated version. Continued use after a posted change indicates acceptance of the revised policy. Material changes to official record access should always be checked with the relevant Ingham County or Michigan custodian.
